IAI Mini-Panther UAS IntroductionThe Indian Army plans to induct about 600 'micro' and 'mini' UAV detachments - of around 1,400 to 1,600 UAV - at a cost of USD85 million-ISR and targeting data capabilities.
The Army released a Request for Proposal for 500 mini- and micro-UAV systems in the first quarter of 2011. Qualitative RequirementsThe UAV is required to have an endurance of at least 30min and the ability to be operated by just one or two soldiers.
An earlier request for information also specified the use of either fuel or battery power, with hand-launch or vertical take-off and landing options. Potential BiddersSeveral Israeli companies are expected to compete for the order and are in the process of teaming up with a local partner.
Israeli companies expected to bid include Israel Aerospace Industries, with its Mini Panther tiltrotor, Aeronautics Defense Systems, Elbit Systems and Bluebird.
BlueBird has already finalized a teaming agreement with Indian company Dynamatic Technologies.
