DRDO Press Release May 23, 2012
‘Private enterprise has been given more opportunities in this decade to produce & develop various equipments and products by way of co-partnering in the endeavor of increasing self reliance in the area of Defence sector’ opined Dr. VK Saraswat Scientific Advisor to Raksha Mantri while participating in the ‘PRODUCT RELEASE’ Ceremony of CABS [Centre for Air Borne Systems] today. He said the private enterprise should gear up the infrastructure of production units in a big way to accept the challenges leading to high quality & globally viable cost factor.
He released the Identification Friend or Foe (IFF) products designed and developed by CABS.
IFF interrogator is one of the major systems of the Airborne Early Warning & Control (AEW&C) system, designed, developed and evaluated on flight test bed by CABS. As a spin-off to the AEW&C programme, CABS adapted the design conforming to the international standard ICAO / STANAG 4193 for IFF to realize interrogator, transponder and Combined Interrogator and Transponder to meet the requirements of the Tri-services.
A need for a large number of such systems would be required for armed Forces for ground / surface / airborne applications. Seeing the potential of the product, both, for internal needs and international markets, CABS has identified M/s Data Patterns India Pvt Ltd., Chennai and M/s Alpha Design technologies Pvt Ltd., Bangalore for the manufacture and product ionization of these units, based on the IPR of CABS design. The AEW&C sub-systems are in the advanced stage of development and are undergoing the test and integration phase at the STIR facility of CABS.
Tactical Software : AEW&C system is highly software intensive and a potent force multiplier. The tactical Software of AEW&C is of operational significance. The indigenous development of tactical software ensures that the domain knowledge of the IAF is captured, enhanced and upgraded based on User needs from time to time maintaining the security aspects.
CABS has designed and developed the tactical software consisting of multi sensor data fusion, threat evaluation, interception, guidance, recovery and battle management modules based on the domain knowledge shared by IAF. On achieving the milestone of evaluation by IAF in stand-alone mode, SA to RM released the Tactical software and declared it as ‘Product of the Year’ of CABS.
